No Thompson for Gilas in FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament

 MANILA: During the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament, which takes place in Latvia from July 2–7, Scottie Thompson will not play for Gilas Pilipinas.








The Ginebra guard's recovery from a "bulging disc that has bothered him" has not yet fully occurred, as team manager Richard Del Rosario acknowledged on Friday, during his PBA club's 2024 Philippine Cup campaign.

Gilas will play without Thompson and injured players Jamie Malonzo and AJ Edu.

The national team will be leaving the country on Tuesday to face Turkey and Poland for a couple of exhibition matches.

But before that, Gilas will be facing Taiwan Mustangs in an exhibition match on Monday. Gate attendance is open to the public.

House may still call Sara Duterte to DepEd budget hearing.

Vice President Sara Duterte was forewarned on Friday by opposition lawmaker and Gabriela representative Rep. Arlene Brosas that her resignation as education secretary does not absolve her from participating in upcoming budget discussions to address the problems with the nation's failing educational system, which she had oversaw for at least two years.
